Hanover is a special case. The state capital does not publish its Sunday releases in the official gazette; we went through issues 1 to 43 of 2026 and found no entry. The only official overview is kept by Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH, the city’s company that also runs the editorial side of hannover.de. It lists only upcoming dates; earlier Sundays of the year drop off the list. So only two dates are known for 2026, both on 8 November: in Mitte for the “Hannover hilft! – St. Martin” campaign and in Hainholz for “Kunst & Kultur”. The overview gives no hours; Lower Saxony’s act allows up to five hours outside church service times. Further Sundays that newspapers reported for 2026 could not be confirmed from an official source. Nothing has been published for 2027 yet.
Application instead of ordinance
In Lower Saxony the council does not adopt an ordinance; the competent authority releases a Sunday on application by the shops or their association. The act allows six Sundays per municipality, but no more than four for the same area. There is no express duty to publish the release in the gazette, and Hanover does not.
