Dortmund issues a separate public order ordinance for each shopping Sunday and publishes it in the official gazette, often only weeks before the date. For 2026 we went through issues 1 to 42 and found 7 dates: the centre inside the Wallring on 19 April for the e-bike festival and on 8 November for the Hanseatic market, Hörde for its spring festival and duck market, Aplerbeck for its artists’ market, Hombruch for a street festival, bike race and club day, and Lütgendortmund for its St Martin’s market. Every date runs from 1 pm to 6 pm. In September 2025 the city announced further Sundays, including a Christmas-market Sunday in the centre on 6 December. On 29 October 2026 the ordinance for it was still outstanding, and without it we do not list the date. Nothing has been published for 2027 yet.
One ordinance for each Sunday
Other cities adopt their Sundays for the whole year in one go. Dortmund works date by date: each release has its own ordinance and its own reasons. That makes each release more robust in court, because the city can describe the occasion close to the event, but it also means the calendar stays incomplete for a long time. A date announced in spring can be missing until the last moment.
