Editorial policy and corrections
Travel into town because of a wrong date and you find the doors shut. So this page sets out where each date comes from and what happens when something is wrong.

Order of sources
- Acts in force on the states’ law portals: the sixteen shop opening acts, plus Art. 140 of the Basic Law;
- Town decisions: ordinances, bylaws and general orders in the official gazette, notices on the town’s website;
- Town statements: pages of public order offices and municipal marketing companies, the town’s press releases where no ordinance is online.
Aggregator sites, advertising, shopping-centre pages and newspaper articles are not a source for a date. Where there is no official source we write “not yet published” or “no source”.
Computed where possible
Church-year barred days such as Easter, Whitsun, Advent and Totensonntag are derived from their rules by a calculation core. Automated tests check at every change that each listed date is possible under its state’s act and that every source has a reading date.
Rhythm
Towns are re-read at every update, above all from November to February. A full review of the acts at least every 12 months and after every change in the law.
Handling errors and cancellations
- Check at the source.
- Correct or remove the date, with a new reading date.
- New position on every page and in the calendar file.
